THE INTERIM JOINT MATRICULATION BOARD (IJMB) is a nine month programme moderated by the Ahmadu Bello University. It is designed to solve problems of admission for candidates seeking admission into the university without Jamb.

INTERIM JOINT MATRICULATION BOARD EXAMINATION (IJMBE) is a qualifying examination into Nigerian and Foreign Universities. The examination is primarily for Advanced Level subjects for Direct Entry into 200 level in the Universities.

In 1976, Interim Common Services Agency (ICSA) established the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB). The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was founded by the then government of the old Northern Region of Nigeria to offer educational and social services to the people of the Northern region.

The first examination organized by Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was conducted in 1977 for all candidates who had undergone the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE), a post secondary education programme in the existing schools of Basic/Preliminary studies which had substituted the HSCE.

The Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria is saddled with the responsibility of administering IJMB Board. Some members of the IJMB board include amongst others representatives of a variety of education institutions such as the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).
